Volunteer Services

HK Electric Volunteers – We Care

Our volunteers team has grown to a membership of over 1000 colleagues, around half of the Company's workforce, extending their care to the community through various voluntary services.

While elderly care and environmental projects remain our service core, the HK Electric Volunteers Team has been diversifying its services in recent years to include other services such as sporting events, mentorship programmes, art education, and visits to Correctional Institutions.

To co-ordinate and seek continuous improvements in volunteer services across the Company, a Volunteers Team Working Party comprising representatives from various departments meets regularly to review and enhance service quality. Incentive schemes are in place to encourage more volunteers to serve and anniversaries are celebrated to recognise outstanding volunteers.

Elderly Care

Caring for the elderly is one of our volunteers team's service focuses. With the assistance of the Housing Authority and the Housing Society in identifying senior citizens living alone in public housing estates, our volunteers conduct monthly inspections for the elderly on their electrical appliances or installations at home.

We also extend care to "hidden" elders and encourage them to reach out to society through the "CAREnJOY" programme in collaboration with district councils, Lamma Island rural committees and eight elderly service organisations. Our volunteers team also supports other elderly services organised by social welfare or non-government organisations, such as the fall prevention service organised by Aberdeen Kai-fong Welfare Association Ltd., etc.

Environmental Protection

Caring for the environment is another service focus of the team. Throughout the year, our volunteers take part in various services supporting environmental protection and education. These include the "Clean Up the World in Hong Kong" and the "Green Power Hike" organised by Green Power; Green Hong Kong Green and No Hillfire Campaign by the Conservancy Association; International Coastal Cleanup by Green Council, as well as the Company's Happy Green Campaign promoting the smart use of electricity among the public and younger generations.

Other Community Services and Fund-raising Activities

On top of caring for senior citizens and the environment, our volunteers also involve in other community services helping different people in need. They also take part in numerous fund-raising activities, such as selling flags and raffle tickets, etc., to support non-government organisations and charitable bodies.
