Electricity Generation

At HK Electric, electricity is generated round the clock at Lamma Power Station (LPS) with a total installed capacity of 3,652 MW. LPS provides a safe and reliable supply of electricity for more than 580,000 customers on Hong Kong and Lamma islands, and contributes to HK Electric's world class reliability of more than 99.999% since 1997.

The Company is committed to using cleaner fuels including natural gas and renewable energy for power generation. We have been constructing three new gas-fired generating units in phases – L10, L11 and L12, at Lamma Power Station with L10 and L11 commissioned in 2020 and 2022 respectively. For L12, installation has begun and is scheduled for commissioning in 2023.  With all these new gas-fired generating units becoming operational by 2023, our electricity generated from natural gas will be further increased significantly, marking a major step forward in our coal-to-gas transition to supply Hong Kong with greener energy.

Equally committed to harnessing renewable energy, we commissioned the city's first commercial scale wind turbine, "Lamma Winds" in 2006.  LPS also features one of the city's largest solar power systems, contributing to the green energy produced for Hong Kong.

To tie in with the Government's escalation to "Emergency" response level under the current COVID-19 pandemic and to prevent people from gathering, HK Electric has suspended all visits to its facilities until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
